Primary responsibilities will include preparing electrical designs for power distribution, one-line diagrams, control diagrams, network architecture for SCADA systems, and emergency power systems. Typical projects include low and medium voltage distribution systems, and general electrical design including 480V and below for facility power distribution and lighting.
This position includes working remotely from home, preferably in the Houston or Dallas-Fort Worth Metro areas. Requires occasional travel to project sites as needed.
Typical Job Requirements (include but are not limited to the following):
- Prepare Construction Documents (Plans and Technical Specifications) from proposal and preliminary engineering phase to construction management phase.
- Coordinate with equipment vendors, manufacturers, clients, team members from other engineering disciplines.
- Make site visits to gather information to complete design.
- Work on multiple projects of varying complexity, simultaneously.
- Coordinate with local utility companies for electrical and gas service to sites
- Coordinate with local authorities having jurisdiction regarding electrical building permit submittals and design review.
- Participate in project meetings.
- Perform review of construction documents at various stages of completion for quality and content.
Qualifications
- Associates degree or equivalent in a related field of study.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and AutoCAD electrical
- Understanding of the National Electrical Code is required.
- Knowledge of NFPA 820, NFPA 30, UL-508A, UL-698 and related Codes/Standards.
- Ability to work and complete project tasks with limited supervision.
- Manage time efficiently.
- Ability to travel locally throughout the Houston or DFW, and occasional travel throughout Texas.
Position Description:
The Control Systems Technician will assist in the programming team with the startup commissioning and testing, & troubleshooting support for water and wastewater control systems.
Position Duties:
- Performs installation of PLC & HMI programs as developed by the Integration Engineers.
- Performs onsite device and equipment configurations and communications testing between devices across the controls systems network
- Performs shop testing and field I/O verification tests with contractors and electricians.
- Perform quality checks and shop testing of PLC, HMI, & SCADA programs.
- Work with third party contractors to complete onsite field testing, start-up, and operator training activities.
- Adapt to a flexible work schedule & travel, if necessary, to participate in onsite activities at the owner’s facilities.
- Troubleshoots instruments and systems within the control system
- When skill level is at a level of competence to allow for independent work assignments, the technician will be expected to be “on-call to troubleshoot instrumentation and control system issues.
Skills/Experience:
- Associate degree in Instrumentation, Electronics Technology, or similar specialization
- ISA Certified Control Systems Technician Level 1 is a plus
- At least two years of experience in electronics technology, instrumentation, or an equivalent field is required. Experience in utilities is highly desired.
- PLC experience – capable of connecting to PLCs and troubleshooting programming logic.
- SCADA experience – capable of navigating and modifying HMI applications.
- Instrumentation testing
- Willingness to travel 50-75%
- Advanced computer skills, literacy, & proficiency. CompTIA or similar is a plus
- Knowledge of water/wastewater systems is a plus
- Must possess skills to troubleshoot issues with components within a control panel.
- Must be able to easily interact with other engineers, contractors, operators, and owners.
- Must possess effective organizational skills for productive task and time management.
- Must be able to identify and solve problems in a timely manner.
- Must be a self-learner and be able to work independently
- Must provide own transportation (milage is reimbursable) to drive a vehicle to various offices and project locations. Valid Texas Driver’s License with insurable record is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, lift a minimum of 50lbs and walk up and down stairs and or fixed ladders numerous times.
